Pump Recommendations? Vortex Filter? Can't Post

I am in the process of building my pond,(3mx3mx1.5m), with gravity feed. Does anyone has recommendations for pumps?(Bangkok's supply is 220 volts0) I do understand that certain pumps are more efficient than others.

Also, I would like to build a vortex-filter, any pointers? I would like to use the plastic 30-gal water containers.

Regards,

Bancherd

Hi,

For pond of that size, you can possible try to use common submersible pump with 2" outlet (150 watt)

Hallo Bancherd!
Try to get a "OMNI'" Pump this is a low pressure ,high volum pump 2200/GPH at o-head.
Only 150W.CHEAP to run.

Oh Yes, OMNI pump from Japan is always my pick. I have been running two such pumps for three years, so reliable and so economical. OMNI pump definitely has my vote !

Cheers

Based on the dimensions of your pond, it could contain approximately 3500 gallons of water. From what I learned the water should be circulated through the filter at least 8 times a day (assuming the surface area of your filter is at least 25% of your pond area). It works out that the pump should have a capacity of at least 1200 gal per hour, at 0 head. You need to make allowances for the length of pipe, number of bends and height of outlet. I don't know much about comparing brands but check on the capacity and wattage (which affect your running cost). It is also advisable to have a back-up pump.

Hello Bancherd !
1) Based on the dimension ,you pond vol. is 3000 imgal.Make sure your filter is 30%+ that is only the bio.filter not including the rest of the filter,so any pump from 1500-2000 gph will be ok. As your pump never run on100%efficiency.
The 30 gal. Vortex is no good at all much to small for your pond size.See under pond construction .

Hans:

You are right, at 1500-2000 GPH, it is about 25-33 gallons/minute, so it would take about one minute to fill the container, which is fairly fast, too much turburance, resident time is too low.

Thanks.
