Hi Mr. Khoo,
Thanks for the drawing, but I am surprised that the outlet is directed to the first chamber of the filter not to the pond. For my case should I direct it to the settlement or to the first bio-filter ? and how about the pumped up air mentioned by Hans ?

Hello Ridwan!
The elbow for the standpipe ,use 8mm thickness ,as the thin one get worn out fast ,rest of pvc pipe 5mm is ok.Like I said befor use only quality pipe .as the all in concrete.Dont take short cut with your filter size ,this is the most important item on your pond.If your bio.filter is big .you wont need a trickle tower,but if you do ,direct the out flow to your pond or waterf,or pump chamber.For the air flow up the tower ,you need a air pump with big volume ,high blow not so good,but the tower works with out air also ,myself do not use air. I hope that helps you ,pls. check on pond construction as most your answer from your question there .

Many thanks to this forum, especially to Mr. Khoo and Mr. Hans. I think I can proceed my construction with no doubt now.
Now on I will start to search for the hardware, OMNI pump, dechlor, aand filter media. I hope can get it cheaper here, seems impossible... Smile

Some write up on trickle filter which may be of interest to you.

Wet/Dry Filters

Also known as trickle filters, wet/dry filters work on the principle that the beneficial colonies of ammonia neutralizing bacteria grow best in the presence of well oxygenated water. By ``trickling'' water over unsubmerged plastic gizmos or other media, wet/dry filters provide a very large air/water surface area. They come in many shapes and sizes. The boom in successful saltwater aquariums in the 1980's can be attributed to the use of this filter type.
Many things can used for the media, with the best providing great amounts of surface area, while at the same time having large openings to reduce the tendency to clog and ensure efficient gas exchange. The problem of clogging of the media can also be reduced by prefiltering the water with an efficient mechanical filter, and (when used) with a protein skimmer.

With trickle filter, the gas exchange by trickling water down slowly should provide sufficient oxygen for the nitrification process. It will still work fairly well with additional air supply.

Thanks Mr. Khoo for your quote, I am thinking of adding two trickle tower of 12" PVC x 5' at the corner of my pond (on the bio-filter 2).
What do you think if we drill hole around the PVC pipe at sections below and above the bio-ball sections to get a better of air circulation.

I am now start searching for uniring and other accesories, my pond is in the progress of installing the re-bar now.

I want to ask about the deep water return and spray bar to be include in the wall in Hans's writing about pond construction, I don't get it.

I have called several pump dealer here in Jakarta but they do not have such Omni pump. Is it a submersible pump with the brand OMNI and how about the price in Malaysia ?

Sorry for the late reply.

The OMNI pump is a fully submersible pump with 150 watt rating and 2" outlet.

Price is about RM 750.00 per unit.

Hi Mr. Khoo,
Thanks for your information, I can’t get the OMNI pump here. My friend Mr. Ken is going to Singapore this afternoon. He might bring two OMNI pump for both of us, and the pipe for uni-ring. We got offered from Singapore Sin $ 280 for the pump and Sin $ 28 per meter of uni-ring pipe, good enough I think.

But for the uni-ring pipe, is it only sold in one size/diameter ?

Mr. Khoo, I saw in your picture of the trickle filter that you use the plastic hose for the outlet of the aerator, what is your recommendation for the aerator system especially for the hose/pipe. I have built-in ¾” PVC pipe in the pond wall and I plan to use the 3/8” plastic hose in the PVC pipe but another store told me that I can only use small plastic hose for aquarium.
They offer me a Japan made aerator Hi-blow 80 Watt (Takutsukuri ? ) about RM 820, is it good ?

I have completed most of my pond structure-works, at last I use 2 trickle filter of 10” PVC, height 1.5 m sit behind the waterfall that is being constructed.
Very much thanks to this forum, especially Mr. Khoo and Mr. Hans ham. Everything hopefully completed before Christmas, and to you guys……Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hi-Blow is the best and many of us in Malaysia infact use Hi-Blow. I have a total of three units serving my pond and filter.

It works great and durable.

If you use 3 Hi-blow aerator, For my pond of about surface 5 m2 and 1.5 m depth and 4 bio-filter chambers, can I use only one 80Watt Hi-blow aerator ?

For a start, a 80watt Hi-Blow should be sufficient but you must divert some air to the filter. In my case, I have a Hi-Blow just for my filter alone.

Hello you guys, especially Mr. Khoo and CCH. I will post the pictures soon, my pond kind of late due to the holiday of Christmas and Hari Raya Idul Fitri and I prefer to do the finishing works by myself.
I am testing the pond for water leakage now, uni-ring tested already. But I need your experience on several things :
- My stand pipes still have very small water leakage, do we need to put any sealing like o-ring or others.
- About aeration in the bio-filter, is it the oxygen dissolved in the water absorbed by the bacteri or the oxygen in the bubbles which is absorbed
- I plan to use the porous pipe as air stone, is it better or worse ?

HI Ridwan,

Both koi and bacteria will take oxygen dissolved in water.

As for the porous pipe and airstone, the one that will give out more small air bubbles is better, more surface area for contact with water, hence more oxygen will dissolve in water.

Thanks Mr. Khoo, I finished my pond now but I have to travel next week so I will put the koi later and I will post some pictures of it. Thanks for you all in this forum, especially for you Mr. Khoo.

Mr. Khoo and you guys, what should I prepare and buy to maintain my pond and the koi. I hope I can be there in your koi show on my way back home so I can buy all the stuff there or Singapore.

You may wish to purchase a backup unit just incase there is a power failure !!

I always have on extra unit of HI-Blow just incase the air-compressor fails.

I was there in MKC Second Koi Show, I went there with Beng Teck, Melvin, and Tian Huat form Singapore. Unfortunately not meeting you there.
I have filled up my pond now, I wonder is there any discussion about conditioning the water quality for new pond ?

Hi Mr. Khoo,
First of all I would like to thanks you all in this forum especially Mr. Khoo and Hans, I can say almost all the pond knowledge came from this forum. Most of all it has given me a good convidence to start to rebuild my pond.
My pond is working well and thinking of better kois now Smile. All water reading is excellent and almost crystal clear. Just waiting for the algae to grow on the wall, any idea to accelerate the grow of the algae.

Today I will post the picture of my pond, kind of afraid of becoming darker after scanned.
