Recharging active carbon [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi ,

If i'm not wrong recharging the carbons need high temperture of above 400 degrees celeius or somethings like that .
This is what i heard from my friends , maybe someone can correct me if i'm wrong here .

Zeolite can be a better option as recharging them are much easier .

ET is right. You need real high temperature to recharge your carbon.

It seems quite impossible to recharge the carbon. How to check if the carbon are full and needs to be disposed.

Any idea where to purchase zeolite from local dealers. I only managed to get zeolite
during the Singapore koi show 2000.

Thanks.

Hi Swee,

Instead of depending on zeolite or carbon, why don't you think of installing a trickle filter that require very minimal maintenance.

Swee

It is not possible to recharge the activated carbon by ourselves. It involves the similar process of manufacturing the carbon. It is also not advisible to recharge because of toxins it absorbed during service.

I use a simple method to check whether the carbon is saturated with absorbed chemical and toxin. Put the carbon in a long tube of 2 inch diameter. Cover the bottom end of tube with netting, fill the tube to 12 inches high or so with carbon. Run a little fresh tap water into the tube, if you do not detect any chlorine from the filtered water, it is still useable. Otherwise change. Remember the carbon filter material act as dustbin trapping toxins, what happens when the dustbin leaks ? It discharge all the toxins it filtered in previous months.

Try calling this guy Wong from GoldenLake Aquatic Centre located at 45A Punggol 17th Ave. (Tel 3867603). The last time I visited him was like more than a month ago when he told me that he is giving up koi business and going into marine fish and birds. He has lots of Zeolite and selling it a $4 per kg. Alternatively, you can get it from Mainland at $11 per kg. If you want more tips, drop the forum a post at SKC or cyberfins.com and pple like Eric Lim, Tan Beng Teck and others will tell you more 'lobangs' in Singapore.

Side note: You should heed Mr Khoobg's advice and go the direction of Trickle System. For your information, a local fibreglas *company* is working on the details of my experiments and a prototype model which will be available for the market once the legal implication is finalised. My conclusion is (and I believe) people will be impressed by the result of my test.

Hope this help.
