Sand Filter Can't Post

Hi, can someone tell me where to buy sand filter in Singapore or Johor? I have a 8'x4'x2' fibreglass pond with a homemade biological filter complete with 3 trickle towers. The water quality is excellent but I find that my system cannot filter out the fine particles. I have used cotton wool at the top of my trickle tower & it does trap these fine particles. Unfortunately, the cottom wool clogs up easily & I have to wash them very often.

I feel that a sand filter will do the job & would like to try it out. I have seen alot of these sand filter product in American advert, but cannot seem to find one in Singapore. Would appreciate some help here.

Looking forward to your help.

Thanks

Hi, what abt using gravel as part of your biomechanical-media in the filter box (not the trickle towers)? From my experience with a fiberglass tank, using a layer of gravel(abt 3in thick) as filter media really gives me crystal clear water. Only problem is you've got to place them in a fine net to facilitate removal for rinsing once a month to remove clogged debris.

Dear DTTK,

Thank you for your valuable suggestion. I will see if I can implement this if I cannot find a sand filter.

My homemade biological filter comprises a 4' high x 2' diameter container with inlet and flushing outlet at the base. The effluent outlet is at the top, which then leads to 3 trickle towers. I have potted plants at the top of my biological filter, and these plants grow profusely, making it difficult to separate the plants for removal. To put the gravel at the base would mean taking out the plants and all the layers of biological medium. This can be done of course. It's just that I would prefer an alternative means, which is why I am looking at a sand filter.

Nonetheless, I value your suggestion very much & look forward to more meaningful discussions in the future.

Hi Eng Bin, sorry for mistaking that you have a rectangular type box filter which was why I recommended gravel. If you are the DIY type, take a look at Frank's bead filter system in the forum. Cheers. Smile

Dear Mr DTTK,

Thank you again for your reference. I have obtained MR. Larry Lunsford DIY bead filter system and am trying to get Mr Frank Chong to give me a schematic of his neighbours DIY sand filter system.

Thanks & regards

Eng Bin

Dear Mark,

Thanks for the info. I have actually found the site a few days ago. I have no problem building the filter. My only problem now is to find where to buy the beads in Singapore. Any clue?
