Surface skimmer through bottom fed filter Can't Post

Hi

I am building a pond with a bottom drain. I also plan on putting a surface skimmer in the pond wall and connect it to the same pipes as the bottom drain.
How do I make sure that there is a water flow through the skimmer and into the filter?

Or will it just work without doing anything?

Thanks
Rasmus / Denmark

Don't connect it to the bottom drain pipe, the skimmer should have its own piping going to your settlement chamber so you can maximize its sucking effect. Connecting it to your bottom drain will cut its efficiency. Would be better if you can make an adjustable skimmer so you can follow the water line as necessary. Here's a pic of my DIY adjustable skimmer made from PVC connectors and pipes. I cover it with a small piece of left over pipe when I feed them.

Hi

Thanks for your response.
Ok, so I don't need a separate pump for the skimmer? I just connect it yo the first filter chamber the same way as the bottom drain?

Thanks
Rasmus

skimmers don't need pumps. just pipe it to your first chamber.
