Suspended Solids Question

Can't Post

From my own experience and from reading the post on several web boards, it looks to me like biofiltration has been pretty well covered. There is more than one way of getting the job done, many are somewhat dependant upon the local water and weather conditions. One thing that is common to all biofilter systems is that the biofilter works best when it is not asked to perform double duty as a mechanical filter, as well. In fact, some of the most efficient biofilters will not do anything to remove solids from the water and must be supplied with water that is relatively free of suspended organic matter. I would like to hear from anyone who has an idea that they have tried and that works, for a pre-filter who's job is solely that of solids removal. Ideally, it would be something that the DYI (Do It Yourself) pond keeper could construct. Many of the ideas I have seen and some that I've tried, required a very frequent clean out. The best method would either be self-cleaning, or one that would allow you to do scheduled cleaning, perhaps once a week. If you have such a method, tried or ''on the drawing board,'' I'd really like to hear from you. You can email it to me, preferably with attached drawings or photographs, or post your thoughts here, so we can all take a look. I'd love to trade some ideas on this subject. If permitted, I'd like to make some web pages available to post some of the system ideas, pics, and drawings, with full credit given to the contributor. My email address is msingle@sanctum.com Thanks, Mike S. Spring Hill, FL
