TT problems Can't Post

Looking to fix my TT for some reason it has not cleared my water, luckily no problems with ammonia, nitrate, or nitrite, but my water is still very green. Ive had it running for a couple of months, well last summer it was. It has just started to warm up here and I want to fix it. Could it be because the barrel (55 gallon barrel) is white and still too much light is getting through and hurting the good bacteria? My pond is around 1000 gallons and my pump is 1200 gph. I am going to spray paint the barrel (Only on the outside dont worry Tongue). I have also gotten more bio balls as it is not full. I also am going to add a black and green matala mat to the top of it, and yes there is a spray bar which distributes the water pretty good. Any ideas on what could be wrong if this is not the problem or should this solve it?

I've had TT problems like you in the past.

You say the water has warmed up, but when did the green water begin blooming? Before of after the warming?

If it was before the warming, it is most likely an issue with the biofilter's:

*Flow; or
*Media.

Is the pump moving 1200 gph at the input of the TT? To find out, use a bucket of about 10 litres and see how much water fills it in within 10 seconds. Multiply the litres caught by 360 to find out what your pump is pushing per hour.

Media
I note you have bioballs. How many do you have. Add loads more until its nearly full. I have done the same thing, as well as replacing my old lava rocks.

The water was green last year and has stayed green through the winter up to now, I am adding a lot more bio balls. I don't really have any containers to test the pump with but it is going as strong as when we got it and with the height I would assume it is going 1000 gph at a minimum.

Bioballs
In my experience they take around 2-3 months before they become coated with enough biofilm to become effective in combating green water. Don't ever rinse your bioballs Cool

got any pics? search my nick, your'll see a thread on how to combat green water.. now, im restoring a friend pond, very green. just two days, and i can see much improvement. 1st day, very green water, 3th day- not so green, and can see the fishes shadow already and two of the never before see kaloi start to say hi.

maybe you can add liquid bacteria just to boost up the bacteria level in your filter, as after winter, most of the good bacteria died..

Hi,

I think it could be due to the insufficient rotation of the water. Your pump needs to take more than one hour to re-circulate the 1000 gallons pond water with the filtered one, that also if the flow of the water in your pond is one way towards the filtration chamber else it will take longer time.

Perhaps the soluation is to change your pump with a minimun of 2500 gph to make the 1000 gallons of pond water be filtered and re-circulated within half an hour.

Best regards
Abangk
