TURNING OFF THE PUMP FOR BIOFILTER? Can't Post

Hi guys,

Im interested on using BIO-FILTER for my pond, right now im just using Mechanical filter. I turned off my pumps everynight and turned it ON again on daytime to save energy and of course the electric bill.

My inquiries right now is that if im going to use BIO-Filters, is it OK if i still turned OFF the pump everynight and turn it ON again on daytime? Does the BIOFILTER works in that way or it needs to be working 24HRS?

I need ur expertise on this....tnx a lot Smile

What you're doing is dangerous janseen. Actually, its during the night that oxygen in the pond is at its lowest if left alone. Do you have an air pump and air stones in the pond? How many watts is your pump? Frankly I doubt the savings will amount to anything significant by doing this practice. Or if the savings would be worth waking up one morning to find all your koi dead. Very risky janseen! Suggest you turn it on 24/7. Much more so once you add bio-filtration. I don't even know how your koi are still alive without bio-filtration. Is it a new pond? If so, its only a matter of time before things come crashing down and your koi health slowly degenerate. Bio-filtration requires all the pond water to cycle through it at least once every hour, not doing so will be ineffective.
