Veggie filter vs trickle filter Can't Post

Hi Guys,

I hope I am not bothering too many of you at this time. I am planning to build a good tank and filter system and hope to get some answers and solutions.

At present, I have a tank with bio and a tower trickle filter and the sight is not as pleasant and my wife complains about it.

Have anyone tried veggie filter and got any good results in reducing nitrates.

What are your nitrates readings ?

How big should a veggie filter be for a tank of 1 to 2 ton of water ?

Trickle tower is more efficient than vege filter and it need a much smaller space than the vege filter. TT is almost maintenance free and you need to trim your vegetation from time to time. TT does not need any sunlight whereas vege filter need plenty.

Hi jsoon, I have a veggie filter. It comes in the form of a waterway measuring abt 18ft long and 18in wide. My pond is 26tons(23ftx8ftx5ft). Maintaining a waterway with vegetations requires quite abit of work like trimming and removal of dead leaves and roots/tubers at a regular basis. Of course, all this work is well paid for in the form of nicely growing flora to match with the nice fauna(koi) in the pond. My nitrate levels fluctuates between 5ppm in the evenings to 40ppm in the mornings. This is due to heavy nitrate absorption in the daylight hours. It takes up more space and some of your time. As Khoo mentioned, a trickle tower is just the opposite. The choice is yours. Laugh
Always friendly :)
