Waterfall algea build up

Is this common to all pond builder... algea build up on the waterfall? The pond is in direct sunlight and I am using the Savio Waterfall with rocks around it for drop off... I believe that is my only filtration system beside my Savio Skimmer. What other things I can do to avoid less algea. It feels like the filtration is not that great cause the only thing in the Savio is the green lines and thats it.
