What do you think of my plans?? Can't Post

Hi all- just wanted to tell you my possible plans for the summer
Currently combined my pond is 11 foot long, 5 foot wide and not quite 3 foot deep!- this means that my gallonage including filtration comes in at less than 1000 gallons which is not good.

The plan is as follows- Take out the dividing wall between both ponds(see pic)- this will give me an extra foot in length give or take.
Reduce the height of the raised upper pond by removing the layers of stones so the upper pond and lower pond are level capping stone wise
Rip out the old liner dig further down in both ponds untill they are both level, then put in a new liner and bottom drain. The wall is 1 1/2 foot high- therefore i hope to dig down around 4-5 foot wich will give me a combined water depth of between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 foot
This will mean that my pond will then be 12 foot by 5 foot by roughly5-6 foot ,including filtration this should give me somewhere just over the 2000 gallon mark. Am i correct in thinking that?
What do you guys think?
I would of prefered to go longer and wider- however id rather work with what i have rather than rebuilding completely again. It will also be more cost effective as i will only need to buy a new external pump, new liner, skimmer, plumbing and i will make some DIY filters.
Please comment- here is the pic below so you can visualize my plans from my current pond pic

the new depth is good but if you can go 7-8 feet wide that would be really good.

Hi yea if i was building a new pond i would go wider- i dont want to change the external walls which means im stuck with the current dimensions- Will cost less this way
Cheers for the idea though

Sounds like a good plan to me.

What you already have is nice. Why do you want to go bigger? More koi?

Mainly because theres alot of things that need to be changed to make it more effective. the depth is not really big enough for koi, it has to be completely drained every year to clean out all the debris as i dont have a bottom drain. The upper pond cannot really be used for fish as they come down the chute and hurt themselves- therefore theres no purpose for this pond other than to house plants- therefore by knocking out that wall making the two ponds one and making them deeper will give me a better pond i feel.
