Which Pressurized Filter to use? HELP! Can't Post

Hi All,
I am new to this hobby. I am in a process of building a approx. 7'x18' (2.5'-4' deep) pond with water level 12" above ground. Approx. 3200 gallons. One of my bigger challenge is to hide the filter around the pond as there is place to hide it du to the way we landscape around the pond. Originally I have the following scheme:

Use a Aquamax SF3500 pump sitting at the bottom of the pond taking water thru a Savio compact skimmer and through the casing of the pump itself. Then the pump is to feef through a Filtoclear 4000 pressurized filter installed below ground. The filter will then feed the 20" waterfall.

After some research and talking I became a little confused as some suggested a Biotec 12 and other say I should use a sand filter. Biotec 12 is nice but it gravity type so again the big black box issue. Sand filter is good as it can be installed underground. At this point I have not decided or purchased anything yet. Evventually I will have around 20 Koi of various sizes and my goal is to have pond with clear and health water (who didn't?Wink).

Any comment and suggestion would be mcuh appreciated.
Regards,

The sand filter will clog very rapidly operating in a well stocked koi pond.

In some instances the sand filter are usually used in the final stages of some koi ponds as a final state mechanical filter.

To have clean and clear water it is more essential to have a biological filter with high surface area biomedia that can house large numbers of nitrifying bacteria that convert the wastes of the koi into less harmful substances. As a consequence, enough nitrifying bacteria will create water low in ammonia and nitrite as well as provide clean and clear water.

Therefore the Biotec will be an ideal solution.

As you haven't begun creating the pond, looking into having a bottom drain rather than pump sitting at the bottom of the pond. This way your drain can take in debris in their solid state rather than being chewed up by the pump.

With a bottom drain you'll require a settlement chamber where the solids will settle along with another chamber or filter for biological bacteria cultivation. The pump will then be located in the last chamber to pump water to where you want it to return to the pond.

The filter is extremely important and you must allow reasonable space somewhere around the pond for it. There are ways to hide it, including the use of a pit where the filters can hide and on top of it a walkway/boardwalk to cover the filter.

Hello. I would not recomend buying any type of pre made super duper jumbo filter system! They are generaly JUNK! As every yard is different, then every pond is different, ( numbers of koi, size ect) so , the best filter system is one that is made for your pond! And this means simple making your own filter system. It is very easy , and those people that sell filter systems , are in the business to make money!!!!!!!! They are not in the business to tell you how to make your own system! And as far as those big barrels, well, those can be hidden behind some plants or bushes ect!

Thanks very much for replies.

Could someone recommend the parts to us to attach a bottom drain? I will have rubber pond liner. I suppose one would use a 4" pipe for the bottom drain. Is there any fool proof accessories to connect a drain pipe through the liner without the risk of leaking.
Thanks.
