Zeolites Can't Post

Zeolites is a Hydrated alumino-silicate Mineral, it contains alkalies and alkaline earths "noted for ion-exchange and reversible dehydration properties."
If you use the steeping method to regenrate the Zeolite. It will take over 48 hours in a 10% saturated solution of salt.
if you use the agitation method, the Zeolite will be regenerated in 30 minutes with 10% saturated solution of salt.
The only thing you have to regenerate once or twice a month, and if this is troublesome, then don't use it
Regards,
Hans

Hi Oh Tian Huat,
You will need to have air compressor to Agitate Zeolite. As it takes alot of air volume.
In my opinion it is not worth to do it .
I am still using the steeping method.

Hans

Hi guys,

Just to share my recent experience, the regulars would know that I changed my biofilter in early Nov.

Last week I made the following tests:

Ammonia zero
Nitrite zero
PH 7.5

This is despite me being in the process of changing the contents of the biofilter box one chamber at a time. Water is clear but not crystal clear.

Hence zeolite is not necessary in a properly working biofilter of adequate size. But since I already have the stuff, still keep it for insurance purposes.

Cheers!

Hans,

1. to add on to Chai's question, how frequent do we need to recharge the zerolite after the 48 hours of steeping?

2. What sort of zerolite is prefered? coarse or fine?

Regards.

Hello Chai and Kok Jong,
I have regenerate Zeolites for many years but i would not know the time limit on it.
In advance, only experience will tell.
how often to regenrate Zeolites will depends on several factors.
1.How many fishes(How much wastes)?
2.How much feeding(How much wastes)?
3.Depend on the efficiency on your filter
4.How often you change water

For my own experience ,my pond has 50ton. I have 18 Koi', size 40-70.
I regenerate my Zeolites once a month.
I also use a Yam Tree.
If it's troublesome for you to regenerate Zeolites, don't use it.
Rdgs,
Hans
