Many have tried and some are happy with them others are not. The main reason is understand what they do...

1. Ozone is a very oxidative gas that can breakdown ammonia, H2S and many toxic substance found in pond water. In addition, it also disinfect(by killing bacteria and virus). However, the incorrect dose of ozone can also destroy ALL you fish!!!

2. UV is a good sterilizer if the emission level is sufficient to destroy the membrane of the cells. Many systems do not have enough energy, thus increase the algae bloom (green water) in the pool.

If I were you, I would invest in AOP where you can have the ULTIMATE water quality where ammonia and bacteria are low and dissolved oxygen being increased.

AOP is Advanced Oxidation Process. It is currently being used in many wastewater treatment systems for removing toxic substance.

AOP will not only remove ammonia but will disinfect water very well.It is, probably, the MOST effective method is water PURIFICATION.

Once again thankyou for the reply. Is AOP a mechanically or chemically activated system?

AOP is a mechanical system that generate Hydroxyl Radical (a very strong oxidant). The oxidation power is so strong that it can easily breakdown ammonia and H2S -the frequently found killer toxins. Most fungus, algae, bacteria and virus can be destroyed easily by this system(Cocksackie, E.Coli, Polio just to name a few).

The average system will cost about RM80K. Therefore, it is only for very keen hobbist to be able to find the "value" of this system. The added benefit beside being a disinfectant and toxin remover, it increases dissolved oxygen!!It has an oxygen generator build-in.

The only supply to run this system is electricity (which is relatively low).

With system, no more "green water" and high ammonia level which are the two MOST common problems of any Koi pond.

RM 80K will mean that AOP is in general more suitable for commercial application. May be advance koi keeper with very big pond can consider using it.

Mr Ng PK
Could you tell me how much will an AOP system cost for my 500 gallon pond? Is it maintenance free?

There is a koi keeper, a very keen hobbist, in Singapore that has installed this system. However, I can not mention his name here as we worked thru a contractor and he has instructed that his name shall NO be mentioned for purpose of reference. So far, that is the only pond that has AOP.

AOP has a several components that require replacement after 12 months of continuous running.

Mr KK Lee, I need a day or two to check the size of the system that you need. I am currently away from office.

Since there is another topic(Murky/cloudy water) where there are several visitors that are asking about AOP, I have stared a New Topic "Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP)". Please post your question/s there...

MadMadMad
Gentlemen, I am an ozone expert from the USA and make ozone generators at www.trio3.com. I do not and will not sell my machines to Asia for my own reasons. I am trying to set up a manufacturing facility in that area but do want to educate and warn you.

Do not, and I mean do not use a AOP system to clean your water in a fish pond. AOP is a process in which a hyrodoxal free radical is created. Look on the internet for oxidation comparisions as that is how disinfectants work, by oxidation. AOP creates an oxidiser that is much more powerful than ozone alone.

AOP is created by a comination of ozone and another substance. That other can be Hydrogen peroxide (makes blondes blond) or UV and the end result is a hydroxyl free radical. I have made these machines for polluted water at sewage treatment plants but tell you that it you use this for a Koi pond or any other fish, then kiss your fish goodbye as they will all be dead and I am not trying to sell anything.

I have spent 17 years making and installing ozone systems and am regarded as the "expert" by other ozone companies and a lot of shrimp farmers in this world. Beware of a person trying to sell something by an expert opinion. I am not trying to sell anythinh and that is the truth.
