Pond Startup Can't Post

Good day to all. I am new to this forum (just registered as a forum member) and have been thinking about setting up a koi pond in the side yard of my new house. What I had read in this forum made me decide to pursue and invest in this intention. Nevertheless, I am not a DIY person, hence need to seek a reliable (and fair priced) contractor / professional to execute the job. Pardon me, but would like to seek some recommendation of good contractors which could assist me in my new tryst. I had an earlier quote from a business in Kajang (opposite the KTM station - Bali something) and appears to me that the price is pretty steep. Anyone has previous experience with them who could share? Am pretty cautious as to selection of the contractor given what I have read in this forum that they may result in a complete un-functionable pond. Oh yes, the area which I am thinking of setting up the pond is approximately 16ft (length), 4 to 9 ft (width) and 2.5ft (depth). Truly appreciate your advises. TQ.

Hi Koifeshie,

first of all, welcome to the forum. With regards to your contractor and the design of the pond. It's best to browse around the forums for pond designs. There are a lot of diagrams available that you can learn a lot from.

I think any Koi enthusiast will tell you to build as big a pond as you can afford. You also need to increase the depth of your pond... 5-6ft is ideal.

Also, make sure your contractor is knowledgeable about filtration as most koi ponds require the filtration chamber to be 30% of the total pond area.

Regards,

Chris
