aerating trickle filter Can't Post

Need some advice as to how to aerate a trickle filter. The T. filter will be a 5 tier plastic box/12" pipe filled with bio balls. I like some advice as to how and where to aerate the filter. I plan to use HiBlow 40 with 8 air lines for my main filter. Can the remining 2 air lines be used for TT?

Any advice of suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

aerating trickle filter [In reply to] Can't Post

U don't aerate a trickle tower filter. There is no need to. Water running through your 5 teir box/ 12" pipe never accumulate in them and as such your aeration using your hi-blow aerator just won't be of any use. (U won't get any bubbles rising in the water 'cos there just won't be water submerging your bio-media.)

As the water runs down the t-filter it would barely coat the surface of your bio media in a thin film of water. This increases the surface area of water in contact with the atmospheric air (thus saturating the water that comes out the other end.). The saturated air/water film also promotes good bacteria growth and efficient conversion of waste to less harmless substance.

Forget about aerating your T-filter. instead concentrate your hiblow unit on the conventional submerged bio filter (and if you have one, your settlement chamber as well.)

cheers.
