Hi Tazul Welcome to the Koi Forum. To answer your question... There is no one particular 'right' way of arranging the media in your filter. The basic is however as follows: I am assuming that you are using an up-down flow for your filter. Your 1st Chamber should be a mechanical filter ie. consisting of heavy brush rolls to prevent heavy and large debris from clogging up your other chambers. This should be placed together in rows. Your 2nd chamber, you can place the coarse matting against the flow of water to trap the smaller debris. The 3rd and 4th chamber should be placed with Japanese matting or in your case, fine matting according to the flow of the water to allow the beneficial bacteria to grow better. whilst bio-balls is better used in a trickle tower it can also be placed in the 3rd and 4th chambers. Preferably placed in a netting for ease of washing later. You can place the coral chips in the last chamber to act as a pH buffer. As for the carbon, it is used to absorb harmful ammonia. Place it anywhere between the 2nd-4th chambers would be fine. My advice is if you intend to rear kois as a hobby, then building a trickle tower would be necessary. Hope this answers your question! Regards Johnson
