help with gravity-fed pond Can't Post

hey everyone,
i currently have 2 ponds in my backyard and i was hoping to make a third .. reason being is that all of our fingerlings are outgrowing their old pond and i want to create a new home for them .. i am only 17 and don't have too much to spend because my dad wont let me .. also, if i were to buy a pump, electricity would be an issue .. that's why i am looking into a gravity-fed pond .. also, not only is it cost-efficient, it's also a lot safer than pump-fed ponds .. reason for that is i live in sacramento, ca .. and every so often, our fish's health are put at risk when there are power outages as our vortex overflows and loses much water .. i was wondering if anyone has experience with gravity-fed systems, and, if possible, list pros and cons .. i've seen a number of them but never seen how they work so well .. and some questions i would like to get help on is ..
1. whats my best set-up to get maximum flow?
2. what can i do to get clear water while still maintaining a healthy environment?
- reason for this one is that i've seen ponds that have murky green water , still healthy , but unable to see the beauty of the koi
3. how should my filter be set up
4. what precautions should i take while designing my pond?
as of now, i'm looking at a 5ft x 9ft x 4or5ft deep .. i'm still debating on 4 or 5 ft in depth due to the fact that its more work and everyone knows how much of a pain digging is =[ .. this is all below ground, none raised up to eliminate the cost of bricks and concrete that would be used to raise it .. and also, instead of corners, i want to make it more oval-shaped to help water flow in a circular motion, hence collecting poop and what not at the bottom more efficiently .. i'm looking to use about 4 (blue) barrel drums .. first two i want to add mechanical media such as poly-flo media or jmats to collect as much poop before entering the other two barrels .. then i want to add about two cubic feet of k1 kaldness media each for the 3rd and 4th barrel .. but my concerns for that is how am i going to bury those and still have easy access .. i'm not sure if i'm going to use barrels to begin with due to the fact that my other ponds are pump fed and this one will not .. please help with filter ideas as well

i'm sorrie for such a long post, but i want to provide as much info as possible .. if you guys have questions or comments, feel free .. thanks a lot in advance !! i reallie appreciate it !!

Re: [Toan] help with gravity-fed pond [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello, Well for 17 you seem headed in the right direction! If you want cheap, get the largest WATER FOUNTAIN PUMPS! these use about 45 watts, which cost nothing, thats like a cheap light bulb being left on 24 a day, these are not made to be used as some heavy duty pump, but they move the water! These can be used for your trickle tower filter, since these filters must be left on 24/7 they are the best! These pumps cost about $100.00 something dollars, but they do the job! Also to get better info, go to some local fish shops and ask to see their filtering systems!
