My koi pond is 11 years old with the original 5 large koi. I also have about 8 comets that have been there for several years. The pond has been fed with an underground spring until a year ago when my neighbor installed a swimming pool and the spring gradually dried up. I have a lg pump circulating the water. The pump sits in a skimmer. I have no other filtering system. Its an adequete 3,000 gal pump. The line from the pump is split. a 2" line goes to a 2' waterfall on one end of the pond. Water gets aerated by the rocks there. The 2nd line is 1 1/2" and returns water at the other end of the pond. This is where I will have to install a filter. I can't get one in the waterfall side. Too much stuff there and could damage the liner if I try to install a filter there. My fish are showing signs of stress and I need a good filtering system quickly. The pond is saucer shape and 3' at the deepest part. It holds 5,000 gallons approx 14' by 21'. No rocks on the bottom of the pond (just lg rocks around the waterfall). Shady area. Rather mild winters (Atlanta). No bottom drain. Pond is cloudy. No vegetation growing in the pond. When I had the underground spring, I had an upper dirt bottom pond full of bog plants. Its dried up now. The spring water flowed through the bog area before entering the main pond. This is all devestating to me - I loved my flowing spring. Do you have any recommendations for a good filtering system? I can't build my own filter. I've been reading and found the Ultima 2 and the Trinamic Cyprio as well as other systems. Any thoughts on those filters. Thank you for your help.
