hi guys,

i intend to build my first koi pond in seremban. i read that one of the least expensive method is by using pond liner. can any one of you guys know which dealer sells this type of liner and what cost are we talking about. i have enquired from all the dealers listed in this site but seems like no reply from them yet. the size of the pond is to be 5m x 3.5m x 1m depth.

Hi,

I don't think they are available in Malaysia. I think for us here, we have no choice but concrete pond. Where are you in Seremban?

Thanks

Hello Chiakai
Try Armourseal for pond liner Tel.7847170 Mr Eric Tan ,but dont you think that your pond will be cheaper. As the fitting and the liner may have to be spliced .Putting the pump into the pond is not so good, and you may not able to get the fitting anyway.

I have not seen anyone using liner so far. Like what Rahim said, may be it is not available in Malaysia. But since a good pond need bottom drain, use brick works and concrete for the construction of pond will be much easier and better. Anyway, building of concrete pond in Malaysia is not that expensive.

Cheers

Thank you Hans,

just curious, can i run my piping and pumps on top of the liner instead of punching through it.

since this is my first pond, i was thinking of doing a cheaper pond. if i dont like it, i was thinking of modifying the pond either deepening or enlarging it without spending too much for this.

Thanks for your info

hello cch,

i know there are shops selling liner in singapore but have yet to see anyone using it for pond of this size.

since this garden pond of mine is just being backfilled, i am afraid that the settlement of the earth will crack the bottom of the concrete pond. since i want to construct it now, i do not have time to wait for it to settle. that is one of the reason why i am reluctant to use concrete pond. anyway if there is no other choice, maybe i have to reconsider the constructing of this pond for the time being.

thanking you for your info.

Hello chiakai,

If you have just backfilled the garden and think that the soil is soft and may settle, buy some bakau pile (round timber pile) and get the excavator to press them in. Pile in may be 20 of them (10 pcs, cut into two each) to support the base of the pond. Also ensure that you use reinforced concrete for pond base.

If you run bottom drain along the bottom of the pond, then you do not need pump during discharge. If you run them along the liner, you may not be able to remove all heavy fish waste and they may accumulate at the pond bottom.

I think even if you use liner, you may have to spend says 75% of what you need to spend on a proper concrete pond and is therefore not worth while.

There commercial saltwater fishing ponds in around Selangor , specifically the one in Sungei Buloh uses this liner. This liner is also used in sewerage treatment ponds. A call to sewerage treatment specialist may help.

cch & HWONG

thank you guys for the input. i known of bakau piling and i dont quite trust them. i am an engineer by training and pressing bakau pile by excavator cant really prevent the settlement especially if the pond is filled with water. only with proper piling can take care of this problem. maybe i will just wait for a couple of months for the earth to settle and then press in more bakau piles to support the RC pond. one of the reason why i am thinking of using liner is that i can change the pond without much hazard of hacking and reconstructing the pond. maybe i have to plan carefully how my pond should look like during this time.

thanks again guys

Hwong,

thanks for the info. any suggestion from you regarding liner or concrete pond?

I get mine from a supplier in Shah Alam for the price of RM29 per 1m2 (1m x 1m) 0.5mm thickness. PVC liner Oese brand (Germany).

They gave me 5 year warranty. Now I am a proud owner of my own DIY 5' x 10' Koi Pond :D

You can contact Sunny at 017-6277080. If you negotiate he might give u free delivery in Klang Valley area.

Good Luck

Can post some pics?

And is possible the BOM info (Bill of materials)?

Thinking of using this way too rather than concrete pond if cost is manageable.

Currently my KOIs are in the 7 footer tank.

Thanks

Here are some pics of my pond. Not a good photographer though Tongue. But the best thing is, I did it all DIY! But with a help of a friend of course. It's a 5-day hardwork, but statisfying!
