possible harmful for koi Can't Post

I have 1,000 gallon pond that was established two months ago. For the last two weeks, I noticed that the ammonia and nitrite have shot up. Due to this problem I added aerator with airstones and a fountain. I just want to make sure the water and koi gets enough oxygen. What else can I go to bring down the ammonia and nitrite?
I am aslo looking to replace my existing 25 gallons plastic filter with bird netting and foam and cotton batting. What I am going to replace with is a 55 gallon barrel with bioball and matting. Should I wait until the 25 gallon is establish with bacteria or right away convert to 55 gallon barrel?

please help
