i've installed trickle tower in my filters yet it seems that it does not help much in reducing nitrates. i saw this site lately http://www.thekrib.com/Filters/denitrator.html if i understand it right, the goal is to breed the anaerobic bacteria that convert nitrates to gas. And to do this, i've to remove oxygen from water before it enters the trickle tower. Is this right? My system setup starts with vortex chamber, then mechanical then biological, from there water is pumped to the trickle tower (drum filled with bioballs). Pump's outflow is around 3000 to 3500 gph which comes out of pipes drilled with holes and makes a soft shower effect to the trickle tower. All of the (3) biological chambers are filled with airstones using an air pump designed to produce 80L/Min. With this, i believe that the water i'm pumping to the trickle tower is oxygen-rich which may limit the growth of the anaerobic bacteria needed. Is this right? Do i need to reduce aeration in the bio-filter? By the way, my ammonia is always zero. Nitrite is near zero (using the color chart of the test kit, very close to the zero color and far from the second color which is .25ppm). Nitrate is 50 and above. I'm also afraid if i'm converting nitrates back to nitrites. Anybody, kindly enlighten me. thanks
