trickle tower config Can't Post

dear master koi

i am sorry to ask about trickle tower again..
the question is .. let say i have 8 box of trickle each box have the same bio media volume ( bioball, shave pvc, alpagrog, BH etc etc) i am confuse Unsurewhich configuration have the most efficient to bio filter to work .. because after browse this forum there so many box config .. >> 2 row + 4 column box OR 4 row + 2 column Box

or the bio filter does not care about the placement of the box..???

thanks you for your advice

regards

Hello, I would say to take advantage of free power , that is GRAVITY!! so type ( a) is what I would go for!Trickle towers some times confuse people, what is important to remember is the CONCEPT!!!! which is water running softly over as much media as possible, thus producing GOOD bacteria! Type ( b) looks as though you will have to use more energy to PUSH water! And I believe that through the trickling proces you will not get as much oxygen from Type ( b)

dear jim

i agree with you that typ a have more oxygenate power than typ b .. but " i am very very sorry i am here not to test you" typ B is using less energy than typ A .. because the input level of typ A is more higher than typ B so the pump not have to pump very high to get in to input level of typ B ,so is get little bit more turn around than typ A if we using the same waterpump capacity..
or maybe i just dont understand what kind push energy you explain to me..

Hello, I agree that type ( b) will use less energy! But the idea in a TRICKLE TOWER is to have water trickling!!!so you may use a little more energy with type ( a) but your filtration will be more proficient. Also the difference in hight will most likely not make any difference for your pump, also the bacteria that you want needs oxygen, and you will get more oxygen from type ( a).
Let me know if I can help you!

i fully understand what you explain to me.. thanks very much.. one more tricky question .. is there any max high of trickle tower. what i am saying is.. let say we have 5 meter high TT because that high ofcourse we get more oxygen than 2 meter high TT .. what about the water converter to convert the nitrate/nitrit.. ( i dont fully understand the chemical idea of TT sorry) is it possible when we use 5 meter TT, only 3 meter from top is convert the water and the rest 2 meter is doing nothing because all the bad water is already convert in the first 3 meter..???

i ask because i want to know the optimum high of TT to convert the bad water..

OOT : if i want to use a barrel drum 55 gall to use for bio filter with your experience how many drum i must use.. or i just using the Master guide of filter room that is 25-30 % the volume of the pond ... so if we talking 6000 liter pond i must use around 30%x6000 l = 1800 L --- 1800/200 ltr = 9 barrel drum to use for bio liter do you think is TOO much..??? if using 9 Drum for bio filter..

my plan is : BD - settlement ( drum) - bio fiter (drum ) - pump - trickle tower - pond
and under the TT we have some little settlement and make some pipe route to TPR and UV lamp..

Re: [wongkoi] trickle tower config [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello, your first question on max. height of trickle tower, One thing to remember is ASTHETICS!! You should want people to notice your pond and the koi! A 5 meter trickle tower MIGHT draw more attention than your koi???? People who do not know about ponds will always ask ( What is that big tower for?) And that is not the idea! That is why some people try to hide a trickle tower behind a waterfall!!!The size of your trickle tower should be in relation to how many koi you have! And remember they will grow and you will probabily want more koi in the future, so it is better to have more filtration than less! Oxygen can also be supplied by air stones if you need more! So I would say that two 2 meter high towers is enough, wnat is important is the biomedia inside them. The idea of the trickle tower is that when the water runs down over and through the bio media, this area is wet, but not submerged ( like a shower) and in this process/ after about 4 to 8 weeks you will have a natural bacteria that will start to grow on the biomedia, and this bacteria is what you want! This is the same process that happens in rivers. The pond must first be DIRTY!! so you must first put some koi in the pond, then when the water is dirty, the trickle towers should be turned on, if the water is not FIRST dirty, the bacteria you want will not grow in the trickle towers, The bacteria must have something to eat before it can grow! Also the water should not run down over the biomedia very fast or with alot of pressure, this will make it hard for the bacteria to STICK to the biomedia!!! And after the water passes through the trickle tower, it will be very oxygenated and this falls back into your pond!Looking at your design I see one thing that should be changed, The pump should be located in a way to avoid corners in the pipes! Everytime the water has to turn a corner in the pipes, this means the pump must work harder to push the water up! Each ( elbow) = resistance!!! So the most direct way is better!I would have to water go from the pump directly up and then 1 bend in the pipe that drops the water into the trickle tower. This means move the pump directly under the trickle towers!
let me know if you have more questions
