No need plant if you are thinking of adding a trickle system to your pond. Good to have one.

just make sure sure when when you put in your uv that yopu check your water for ammonia regularly. I didn't. I lost 12 beautiful koi to ammonia. I didn't know that when the uv kills the algae that it causes bio load. A very hard lesson to learn
