Kaldness bio chamber without air pump? Can't Post

Is there anyway to make a bio chamber with kaldness in it without the use of an air pump? Is it possible to use the venturi in this bio chamber? Or maybe have a spraybar? Would any of these be enough to move the kaldness? I am using a Laguna maxi flow solids pump of 2000gph and it will be 1600gph at 4 feet . The reason I am askign this is because I can not afford an air pump to move it.

Hi koistudent,

From my understanding you need air in this type of media to get the full benefit. I'm not sure if the media will be really effective without air.Smile Even using Japanese matting or bioballs as biofilters, you still need to provide air otherwise the good bacteria will not colonize and build in full strength as they should. Hope I make senseSmile

Thank you for your reply and yes I believe I understand what your saying. But I guess what I meant to ask was would a spraybar or venturi be enough to provide air and circulation for the kaldness? or if there was a way to provide good circulation in the chamber without the air pump

HI
I might be able to help you with this one.
Kadness K1 media can operate with or without air added.
In a fluid state the media is MUCH more efficent and self cleaning.
In a static state K1 is very good for TT's and fines removal (ie the Eaxy) but needs cleaning.
In a fluid state each 50 ltrs of K1 with cope with the waste produced 250 grams of food (1/4 Killogram)
The problem with using a venturi to fluidise K1 is that the pump needed to get enough air into the media will cost me then an airpump and more to run and the media will not be circulated just pushed to the other side of the chamber.
Hope this helps
