0.3% salt? Can't Post

hi all especially Khoobg,

My tank has only been added 100g of salt. My tank volume is 1.8m*0.7m*0.7m = 882kg. So do I add 882/1000*3 = 2.646 of salt?! Is it too much for the koi? If not I'll do it tonight. Do I need to add it slowly or just 1 shot pour everything in? Can I use those salt we normally consume or we definitely must buy those salt especially for aquarium? Where can I get them cheap? Thanks!

regards,
Vincent

0.3% salt? [In reply to] Can't Post

Vincent,

Your calculation for 0.3% salt is definitely correct.

0.3% salt is used when your koi is in trouble. In normal days 0.1% salt should be sufficient.

Mr Khoo is absolutely correct to say that 0.3% salt is for situation where fish are in trouble. In some instances, more than 0.3% are also recommended.

There is no need to add 0.3% gradually. You can put all at a go. As for the type of salt, please use salt that are treated with anti-caking agent like Yellow Prussiate of Soda(YPS). There is an association with the mortality of koi ponds that uses salt that contains YPS. Non iodized table salt works well. Check the label.

Good to read up salt information at this thread.

Good luck.
