Hi All The drawing above is a filter system incorporated in a pond/tank - ie built-in filter system. To maximize and encourage bio bugs to grow on a larger area it is recommended that either synthetic media or heavy brushes be put in the 1st chamber. In this small system synthetic media will be more effective - firstly to trap the heavy stuff and secondly it also expands the bio surface area. I am not sure if there is a built-in backflush system for all chambers and especially the first. Otherwise DIY one will be extremmely helpful. Synthetic media at 2nd chamber should be loosely packed to encourage free flow of water carrying the toxic stuff for easy "good bugs" conversion. It is highly recommended that a bag of at least 10kg of cockel shells, oyster shells or coral chips be put at the last chamber to buffer pH. The submersible pump is moved from the first to the last chamber so that either a venturi can be connect at its output or redirected to a trickle tower. Unfortunately Dennis wrote to me telling me that he is not a DIY man. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who could help Dennis. Regards.
