AFTER THE SPAWNING IS OVER Can't Post

This my first year and I think that my fish have spawned, for they were going crazy chaseing, and flopping on the side and everything.
This was very exciteing for me to watch. and they did'nt seem to care about nothing or nobody, they were have a ball.
I was told I could put some foamrubber in the water for them to lay their eggs on .
I now have that seperated.
How long will in take to see if I have any result's?
Thanks in advance BJ Bailey

Hi
The eggs will take 3 to 4 days to hatch. Btw you will be experiencing the following:

1. High ammonia building up.
2. fungus appearing on some of the eggs.

At the moment, may I know if these eggs are moved to a container or a smaller pond?

Hi mark ,I now have the foamrubber submergs in a container of water.
So far I have'nt seen anything, but I was told the egg's would be small as a pinhead.
I may not have anything but I sure hope so. BJ

The color has got to be alittle yellow in color and not white(not fertilised). If the eggs don't hatch within 4 days, then I may conclude that they will never hatch. Betw add malachite Green(0.1 mg per litre of water) or Methylene Blue(3mg per liter of water) to control fungus which will grow on unfertilised eggs.

Hope this help.

Spawning is an interesting and somewhat violent event to watch. A couple of days before my chagoi spawn, I move the female to a spawning tank(4x4x3ft) together with 3 males. Thereafter I make bundles of vegetation and throw them into the tank and a net is spread over the tank. The net is necessary because the female will be driven around the tank and she may be forced to jump.
The males will swim head-first into the side of the female, driving the female into the bundles of vegetation where she can deposit her eggs.

After the whole spawning process, The female is moved to a quaratine tank for recovery. She probably will need a couple of days in the tank before going back to the main pond. As for the males they are moved back to the main pond.

Hope this help.

Reading the information given on another post,my fish are not old enough to spawn.
but what ever they were doing was exciteing to watch.
I guess I've got three more years to wait, before my fish are old enough to spawn?
But if that is true, can someone back up to my first post, read and explain to me what was takeing place those two day I spoke of?

If your koi are flopping on its side and moving in a crazy manner, they may be infested with parasite Smile. Please check.

I have totally forgotten about parasites/pathogens and Ben has an excellent point to note. Thanks Ben.

There are no. of observation to qualify spawning situation.
1) The koi must be at least 2 years old although I heard some reported that a 1 year old koi also spawn.
2) The female in question must be fat with eggs and not just "FATTY". A little pressure apply to the vent area will determine that.
3) The operculum of the males show signs of tiny white spot. Don't mistaken this for white spot disease (ICH). These signs tell you that the males are full of milt(sperm) and ready to fertilise eggs.
4) The last qualification is, there is a constant chasing around by the males.

Ok, so much for spawning....maybe the next round when your koi are older, we will discuss further. Thanks so much for bring out this topic.

Regards.
