Copper is a common algae killing additive, but I would not recommend it for Koi ponds as copper accumulations in the water will eventually become toxic. It appears they are relying on the cathodic reaction between copper and silver to release low level copper into the water and poison the algae.

Hi,

Forget about algae bar.

The best and most economical solution for algae is to put a shade over it to block 50% of sunlight... or if you can afford it, construct a wooden trellis. The good thing with trellis is, it allows sun light to hit the pond which makes the color of your koi grow richer... but at the same time limit the length of time of exposure to sunlight because as the sun change position, the vertical wooden planks will block it.

Although algaebar may work. The fact that fish keepers in general have been trying to limit or get rid of heavy metals in the water, makes me think twice. Besides, any good biofiltration can get rid of green water
