Algea dying off Can't Post

hi all

All the algae in my pond is dying off ,i tested the water last week and everything was good PH around 7 no ammonia and zero nitrates .this is after i installed a 180 liter TT filter using lava rock and a protein skimmer (which i am still tinkering with ) that producing a good bucket full of dark green foam and water a day .

i have a 500 gallon pond with 2, 10 inch koi ,6,4-5 inch koi and a couple of goldfish , if anything i thought i was overstocked .

so what i am wondering is could my TT filter be working already ? seems a bit soon as its only been 2 weeks since i installed it .i also bought a 50litre a minute air pump with air stones placed where i thought dead spots might be in the pond .

i should also add i feed the fish around 20-25 gr of high protein growth food a day .

what do you think

I think your TT is doing its FIRST job, which is degassing nitrates and CO2. The added air in the pond probably is making a difference too. TT's do populate with aerobic bacteria over time like any other biofilter, but raw ammonia, nitrite, and especially nitrate, are volatilized in a properly designed TT and bioload is reduced immediately as a result.

With a healthy pond and a protein fractionator running you should see a decline in DOC rather quickly. It will slowly diminish to just the undigested wastes from your Koi that the filters don't take out and you'll have just a tiny bit of foam produced. Don't waste it though. Your garden plants will love the fertilizer it contains.
