Bioballs and Brushes Can't Post

Hi members,

I am new here.
I have my 9 koi 10 days ago using 2 tons fiberglass tank and 4'x2.5'x2'filter tank, placing indoor.
I am using bioballs and brushes, without mats for my filter system. I would like to get advice on how to maintain the filter system so to get a clear and healthy water for my koi. Till today, the water is not as clear as I expected.
I also have some green plants placing nearby the tank water for decoration, but they turned yellowish or died, could it be caused by the salty tank water?

Many thanks.

Please test the water and give us the water parameter readings.

Brushes is general good for the settlement chamber with the purpose of trapping heavy fish waste.

Bio chamber will need media like synthetic green matting or others that offers a great deal of surface are for the bacteria colonize. I personally have not used bio ball for submerged filter and I am not sure about its effectiveness. Cheras Aquarium, one of the popular koi dealer in town uses bio ball for the submerged filter. You may wish to check with them on its effectiveness.

We generally use a lot of bio ball for trickle filter.

Basic water test required for the koi pond will be :-

>> pH Test
>> Nitrite Test
>> Ammonia Test
>> Nitrate Test
>> Water hardness Test

There are common water test kit from Tetra that offer complete testing solutions for the above five parameter.

You need to check the above parameters to confirm your water quality which will give you an indication on the effectiveness of your present filter.

Even using green matting on new filter will require about a month to mature.

Hope the above help.
