Bubbles on water surface Can't Post

Hi all,

I've got a 4 ton koi pond with about 8 koi, each about 25cm in length. Pond is less than 4 months old and I changed the filter media about a month ago. I've noticed there are quite a lot of bubbles on the water surface. These bubbles don't seem to break. My koi are acting fine. Just wondering what I can do to get rid of these bubbles. By the way, the bubbles disappear immediately after I feed my fish, only to reappear again a while later. I've got several airstones in the water and I only noticed these bubbles after I installed the airstones. The bubbles also have a coat of slime around them. Overall my water is clear and ammonia and nitrite levels are zero. Thanks!

We have the same size pond or pool, I do not have this problem! Are your koi breeding? Where do you live? And what type of filtration system do you have?

Taiko,

What you having is excessive protein or DOC(dissolve organic compound). This is harmless out koi but unsightly. If you browse the DIY section you'll see the protein skimmer I built for my pond. It's very cheap to runWink

Hi Jon,

Thanks. I've also checked with my neighborhood fish dealer and he says its due to excess protein as well. Will look at your DIY skimmer right after this. Have a good weekend.

Hi Jim,

I live in KL. Nope, my koi are not breeding. My filter's very basic. Just 3 chambers. 1st chamber is a settlement chamber, 2nd is where the filter media is and the 3rd chamber is empty. 2nd chamber consists of filter mats, 2 bags of coral chips, aquaclay. Filter seems to be working fine as nitrite and ammonia are zero. PH is around 8.
