Cloudy water - Sandstone? Can't Post

Hi all,

My fisrt post!! Woo Hoo!

Ok, my pond water is a little cloudy. Im not sure why really, dont think its the food. We had landscapers come in to do our garden, but they have taken a big slab of white sandstone I think and put it in the middle of the pond. In my opinion, I think it looks k@k terrible, but my wife disagrees. It also blocks out light to the pond and takes up a bit of space. Needless to say Im not happy about it, and want it out. Im hoping that this slab of stone could be the reason for the cloudy water, and so I will have reason then to take it out. Could this be why its a bit cloudy, cos of the white sandstone? (see pics below)

Hello, nice pond! I will start with a fact Lanscapers are generaly not familiar with koi and there needs, and the fundamental part of koi keeping is a in depth understanding of water managment ( filtration , Ph ect) so I would say they are more than likly responsable for the problems. Now as far as the pond goes, I would say that it seems more designed as a meditaional sight verses a KOI FRIENDLY pond, the slab takes up alot of viewing space so!!!! I would recomend that you let them know to just stay away from the pond. And remember THEY work for you!!!!! keep reading on this sight and you will learn more of the do,s and donts of koi ponds!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Well, it was not meant to turn out that way (looking like a meditation type pond). We had a small fibre glass pond, and the garden got redone. So we moved the fish from the old pond into the new one that you see in the pics. That slab was not my idea....so Im not keen on it. So its turned out to be more of a water feature type pond...which is not really suited to it. So Im wanting to take that slab out to give it more of a pond feel that a feature of sorts....Crazy

What is the point of the sandstone? It doesn't look like there is any room for fish.

It does seem a space suitable for koi growth.
