Coral chips - bigger or smaller ? Can't Post

I would like to know if it is better to buy bigger coral chips or the small ones ?
I heard that coral chips life span for fresh water is about 9 months to a year - is this true ? How do we tell when to recycle the coral chips ? turn colour ?

If the bigger coral chips are better, are there any shops in Singapore selling them ?

You should avoid using coral chip as filter material. Try to use synthetic green matting for your bio filter. You may however wish to include small quantity of coral chip in the last chamber as buffer against pH swing.

Coral chips - bigger or smaller ? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Thanks for replying. In fact, I was waiting for some response from the site.

I have arranged the filter using fibre mats and water condition is ok. NH3=0, N02=0.3 N03= 50, ph is 7.8 sometime lower at night.

From my understanding, the coral is suppose to buffer against PH swing but I am confused right now as a fish shop said we should change our coral chips after a year but again they may getting you to buy ?

I have put 2 small bag of some coral chips in the last chamber about 300g.

Should I leave it and how do we tell if the coral chips is not functioning ? PH Swing ???
