Try using a pond treatment that will kill everything that is put in city water and use it according to direction and you should not have problems like this again. Sorry that you lost your babiesUnsure

You'll need to use a water treatment like Chloramex if they are switching to Chloramine. It is a Chlorine/Ammonia based water disinfectant that many utilities have switched to. Regular de-chlorinator neutralizes the Chlorine, but releases the free ammonia into the water which likely caused a pretty big spike during a water change.

Hello,
Our company is called Koi Masters, a koi pond cleaning company based in Southern California. We buy Amquell and Nova Aqua by the gallons (5) to treat the water. We have been using it since the company was founded in 1986 and have had no problems. I highly recommend it.

Another suggestion is to store your water for 3 days with lots of aeration to evaporise/minimise the chloramine. Maybe you have already done that.
