Fresh supply of water Can't Post

Hello all,

I have a growing-on tank that’s 355.5 litres.

I have just installed a water trickle that’s constantly taking old water out and pumping new water in, my question is:

I have set the flow so every 75 seconds 1 litre of fresh water is pumped in, so every 7hours 40min the tank has turned over once.

Is this to much? If so why.

Is this a good thing? If so why.

I read that this is what the big boys do in Japan.

Manny thanks,

Paul

I'm no expert but gee, turning over once every 7hrs+ seems too fast. The most I've heard in this forum is some members changing about 10-20% water every day. But anyway, we'll see what the gurus say.

Dear Paul

When you say pumping in new water, where is your new water comming from ?

If its tap water them this is far far to much. why not just put a small filter on it and do water changes by hand every few days.

If its rain water then it's still far to much. As rain water dosent contain any or the minerals that register on the KH GH scales.

The japanese do this on a large scale but they have their growing on ponds in a tier system and mud ponds with loads of organic matter involved for live foods like daphnia which the fish feed on. Thus giving them greater growth and better deaper colours.

They are not using tap water with clorine and stuff in and they are not using rain water from plastic tubs. They are using rain water that has come down from the mountains picking up all kinds or minerals and salts from the mountain.

Still if it's working for you good luck.

Thanks :)

The fresh water coming in is via a water filter. I was going to set it up so it does a 10% change per day.

I thought I would give this a try, buy doing it this way there is never high readings.

It's also heated so there is no temp changes.

Your thoughts....

Thanks Paul
