Glasss Beads in a sand filter

Can't Post

I'm about to setup my New sand filter with glass beads. The reason for glass beads is that they don't clog like sand and what they collect, they release much better. They are not good as biofilter material, I'm using this filter to polish my water to gin clear so my wife will stop telling me she can't see the bottom. I'm using a 70 gal Skippy Biofilter with an extra layer of "BioRocks" which have an alledged ten football fields of bacteria growth area. They do work well. I've oversized the sad filter, using a 350 lb filter on an 2000 gal pond. But I've been told you really have to do that or else you have to clean the filter several times a day. It looks like I'll have to clean this one once a week...I'm okay with that. Now for the reason for this post. If any of you want information on getting glass beads, send me an email. they used to only be available in the UK under the name AFM (Advanced Filter Media). The same stuff is now manufactured here in the states out of recycled glass. IF you live in Asia, it may not be practical because of shipping, but in the US, It's prolly a good investment. I got my sand filter...(FibroFilter) on Ebay and it's very nice quality and I got it for peanuts. Commercial glass bead filters cost several thousand dollars, you can build you own for several hundred. Seems 2 me like the way to go. I'll post filter results here when I can.
