Two months back I gave away 4 koi to a friend to thin out my pond. One of them is a Kohaku. The reason I gave away this koi is because its colour is a pale orangy red. I have not seen this koi again for the last 8 weeks because my friend's new pond is green. When I saw it again yesterday after a complete water change by accident (he forgot to switch off the drain pump). I was stunned, the same koi is now a handsome bright red. I could not understand what cause the koi to improve. This same koi was in my crystal clear 9600 gallon pond and fed with branded Japanese feed and look orangy. After 8 weeks in my friend's poorly design green pond of 1200 gallon it is now a prince charming. The depth of the pond varies between 1 foot and maximum 3 feet. It is under full sun shine with only 10% under shed. He only feed the koi with locally made fish pellet which is one fifth the price I am paying for my pellet. Is the locally made fish pellet that great or is it the green water or something else we have not discover.
