Hi everyone,

I have this problem appears about two months ago. I think this is due to I changed the koi food to cheaper one.

The algae is about 3~4 inches long on the wall and giving me a lot of headache because I have to clean my filter more often. Otherwise, the water will stuck.

My pond is about 18 months old. The water is very clear and has below parameters:

pH 8
NH4 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 50 ppm

I always add Calcium bentonite to my pond from the beginning.

Any idea how to get rid of it.

Hi Rahim

You might try starving your koi. [biggrin] Hee Hee. I guess that's the hardest thing to do.

I have a feeling your koi will start eating the algae of the walls as soon as you stop feeding them, or feed them much less. I know mine does a good job of eating the walls botak! Algae is actually good food for the koi, so I hear. Brings out the brilliant shine.

It's just a suggestion. I am sure the others have some great ideas to get rid of Mr Hairy.

I used refresh powder. Took me about 3 mths to get rid of the hairy algae with weekly washing of the filter chamber. The algae now looks like those carpet grass found at the golf course. Worth a try !

I agree with Josh. The algae in my pond was the same until someone told me that I overfed the kois.

I starved them and they nibble off all the hair-like algae in my pond. Come to think of it, it makes sense...when you're hungry...anything goes
