How do you transfer a goldfish from pet store to pond? Can't Post

Hi,

If I get a goldfish from a petstore and want to transfer it to my 4000 gallon pond (no fish in there yet, filter system already set up) how do I do that exactly. I read somewhere that floating the fish in the bag for 30 minutes will do, but if there is a wide gap in the temperature from where the fish is coming from to where it is being place, it may kill the fish. As of right now, the temperature outside is 50 degrees fahrenheit. So, what do I do? Thanks.

It is true that you don't waNT TO PUT THE FISH THROUGH A DRAMATIC temperature change...It needs to be gradual. Can you slowley lower the temperature where the fish resides now? THen when the temps are close...float him in a bag for 30 min. I've transferred fish from one tank to a pond with a 5 degree difference without any ill effect.
