You definitely want rid of them as they will multiply faster than you can imagine, but your filter is already giving your evidence of that. They probably snuck into your pond from some plants. They are notorious for plugging up plumbing and filters if not removed completely. As already mentioned, copper is very toxic to Koi, but there are other remedies. A 4ppm dose of Potassium Permanganate should do them in, but you MUST be very careful with the dosage as it is also hard on Koi if you get the dosage too high or leave it too long. If you don't know the exact gallonage of your pond and are very good at using chemicals, don't use it. Whenever adding plants to a pond it is always a good idea to put them in their own quarantine tank, hit them with a heavy dose of Potassium Permanganate (5-10ppm), and then rinse after 24 hrs. That will kill off any snails or parasites that may be living on their roots, without harming the plants. You must never dose a pond with fish in it that high as they will not survive it long.
