A PH of 6 is very low and is acidic on the PH scale.

It is low for one or many reasons including:

*Tap water PH is low;
*There is too much fish and not much filtration;
*The use of rain water for topping up;
*Someone dropped acid into the water; or
*Some of the rocks used in the pond are acidic and are releasing acid.

There may be other causes. You'll need to describe more about the pond to get us to find out.

Sorry for the late reply. i was oversea for a long time. i using a 120L of fibre glass tank with canister filter. How many kois can i keep for the size of my tank. The PH is abt 5.2 and high ammonia level. My kois seems to be "normal" at this point of time.

Your PH is dangerously low and your ammonia level will be the death of your koi!

Having discussed this exact situation with another forum member, the problem is likely to be your canister filter being too small in size and in terms of holding enough biomedia to handle the wastes from your koi. You will need a much larger canister filter.

You will need to raise the PH using sodium bicarbonate or other PH up formula. Raise this slowly over the week, by no more than 0.5 per day.

You will also need zeolite at this time to assist in the removal of ammonia. Make sure you don't salt or have salt in the tank as zeolite will discard ammonia locked into it when salt reacts with it.

Thank. Saw your discussion with Jase. Just another question. How big should the pond/fibretank be for 9 koi. Is there like a min. number of GAL per koi need?
