Mud Vs Clear Can't Post

Like to hear your views on the advantage of each type of pond.

My understanding is some koi is not suitable in mud pond, as it will affect it overall color/patterns.
Example:- if you wishes to develop Hi-Shusui then put them inside the mud pond.
Clear pond is advised if you need to monitor the color growth especially week before the koi show.
Any strong objection?

Mud Vs Clear [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Ah Ann told me the same thing. The colour of some koi will not improve (may even deteriorate) if left in mud pond. Problem is I cannot now remember which types are unsuitable for the mud pond.

If other readers are intrested I get a 'memory refresher'.

Cheers!

Hi,
Depends on what's the content of the 'mud'. From what I've heard from watching a video on koi farming in Nigata, Japan, the japanese keep their koi in mud ponds for six months a year for their colour to develop beautifully. But then in Japan their 'mud' is found to be mystically suitable for koi. I don't have the scientific explanation but this is what the Japanese koi breeders do. What I learned is that green water is also good for them. Green water or algae bloom (not too excessive though as this could lead to other side effects) means that the water is healthy and nutriteous for algae (single cell plant) to grow. This also means that your bio filter is working. The nutrients for algae are the bi-product of the successful conversion of ammonia (fish waste) into nitrates. It's us human that don't agree with green water because we can't enjoy watching our koi.
