Please advice... Can't Post

Hello everyone!

1)Water Testing: I just want to find out how do people usually test their water?....I mean what else do people usually test for ,other than Ammonia, nitrite, and PH?

2) Visible Red Blood Veins: I have made regular water change of about 10%-15% and tested the water for the above three things, but I still realise that one of my sanke has got red blood veins visible on its white ground( people told me that this reflects that my water condition is no good). Can some one tell me why is this so??? And what can I do about it?

3)New Environment: As i have mentioned, i have tranfered some fish to my new pond which has greenish water. I tested the water for ammonia, nitrite and ph.They were all good. I even change about 10% water weekly. However, the fish do not seem to like the place. It has been a week since they were there but they still refuse to come up to feed. They like to hide in a corner and whenever no one is around, a few of them will venture around the pond. Why is this so??? Anyone is kind enough to offer a solution?

Thank you!!!

Hi Marcus,

So what are the reading like? Do you test your KH. Try posting your reading here. Try hard to read something from ammonia and nitrite instead of zero. If they are really both zero what is the next scale your test kit read? I test nitrite more often then anything else. Nitrite is more difficult to control in my pond.

I was told that visible Red Blood Veins is most likely cause by Nitrite, not too sure. I think my fish has that when Nitrite is above 0.5 for too long, week I mean, on the fins and tail. They are gone as soon as the Nitrite is down to zero.

I think your fish are not used to the new environment. Give it sometime to settle down. Watch them and if they do not eat in front of you take the food out. Check the water again and again. Would be nice to see your readings.

Hi Tian Huat,

Sorry for replying so late!!! I was really busy for the past few weeks. My nitride test kit has colour chart of 0.5ppm intervals and my test result matched that of 0 ppm.

Well, thanks for ur help, my fish had already been willingly to come up to feed. Probably they were not use to the new environment in the beginning.

Hi Marcus,

If your water parameter is OK, ie. Ammonia zero, Nitrite zero and pH 7-8. The next thing to do is to see if your pH changes in the morning, noon and evening. With green water you need to buffer your pH to prevent it from swing too much. Make sure that your kH is always above 6 kdh and wait. Watch the fish and if they do not flash just leave them alone. They will settle down and the green water will go away. Just have to wait. Could takes months.

You can train your fish with a small foalting ring. Only feed a little in the ring only. Keep the ring and food if they do not come and eat. Try again next day. I spent less than a week to get my fish to eat from the ring and with my hand nearby.
