Pond water, slightly foul odor

Hi,
My fish spawned and I gave my friend some eggs attached to the greenery and she put them in her top pond and the water smells a bit foul. Since the eggs are only 4 days old, What can we do or should we do anything? She is running a filter and a small waterfall, so there is movement in the water. Any advice would be appreciated.
