"Preventative medicine" + Algae Fix? Can't Post

Question about using a product called Algae Fix. My pond specs: 5,000 gallons, 4' at the deepest end, high volume waterfall running 24 / 7, currently 7 koi. Pond put in by contractor last July, 2006. No drain. (yes, I know that that was a bad decision on his part and wish I had been more educated on the pond specs themselves instead of mainly studying about raising koi). Water clarity has been good till recently. Brief period of very warm weather followed by COLD weather...then warm again, most likely contributed to the sudden onset of dark green water. Regular water testing = all good levels. Cleaned out the entire pond last weekend (8 hour job), power-washed it and used my new Oase pond vacuum that another member recommended. Once I got the hang of it it was fine. Cleaned all filters, filled pond back up, put in Microbe Lift PL, some de-chlorinator and pond salt. Fish acted quite happy to be back in thier pond. Water now lovely. My local nursery koi "expert" suggested using Algae Fix gradually, starting now, to set up a preventative environment instead of waiting for algae to build back up in the upcoming warmer months and then being forced to use too much or adding other chemicals. Opinions would be greatly appreciated, as always. P. Serafine

I haven't used any algae killer, but for me getting rid of green water has been a combination of a very effective filter, shade and some UV. Did you clean out your filters with pond water? After refilling a pond for a week, the green water may not yet have arrived if you haven't fixed the other things because the water is not yet mature. Its sunny weather that contributes to algae growth, while rainy weather may have washed some nutrients like fertilizer into the pond that contributed to the growth. If you have an effective filter and UV, it should clear quickly.
