A UV is a steriliser and is effective to kill algae cells and hence, prevent green water. The answer to your question lies in the effectiveness of your filter - which should be matured by now. If your filter is properly sized and your pond is not entirely under direct sunlight, there is no need to keep the UV light running. If the water turns green in future (it shouldn't unless certain parameters in the pond is upset), then you can always switch it back on.

Re: [vaio] UV light for koi pond [In reply to] Can't Post

hi i was also doing some research on the same question u asked, well the info i found was, with a proper sized and matured bio filter u will not need to use a uv light, some people do not use a uv light at all in their ponds and the water is very clear, as for me im still using a uv as my filter has not matured..
if your pond has turned green, not to worry mate as its only natural for it to do so, give it some time and soon u will c that the green will go away( with a matured bio filter that is)

cheers mate

plz correct me if im wrong as im also new at this :)
