another algea question Can't Post

Hey everyone... The algae I have questions about is the kind that sits on the liners surface. I have a large bio filter, and UV sterilizer - with a very low fish load. My water is very clear. But the entire surface of the liner underwater is covered in a fine green blanket. even my waterfall rocks (which is only four or five days old) are covered. I ordered a muck vac to try and clean it- but Im wondering if there is a more permanent solution? Here are a couple of pics- maybe you can see what Im trying to say....

Hi,
The algae on the sides and bottom are good for your pond. Beneficial bacteria can grow on them. The reason why the uv does not get to these is because it only treats the water as it passes thru the chamber. I have a muc vac but honestly never used it to scrape the sides of algae. I only used it to get the bottom gunk in areas where my bottom drain never reached.

I have used potassium permanganate (spelling?) and it kills off the algae to a dark tint so you don't see it. Others in the forum have said that said kills algae. Others use barley. Hope these ideas help.

Hi, nice pond Soba!

My husband looks after the maintenance of our pond. What he does to get rid of sludge, algae and debris from the bottom of the pond is to stir it up with the pressure from the garden hose (he uses a water prep to make the tap water safe). Then the cloudy silt is filtered out by the filter, and we have a nice clean pond.

Regards, TL
