food for water quality Can't Post

I'm re-vamping my pond after having some water issues and algae issues this spring. Next weekend I'm going to be installing a pressure filter for a 700 gallon pond and a 900 gph (will be cut down to about 550 after including head) - going into my 300 gallon pond. While doing this I'm going to be completely removing plants, fish, etc. and doing a 100% water change.

I'm scared that I've waited a little too late into the year to do this with ease. While I'm waiting to get my bio-filter started I'm going to have to cut back on feeding, but we're getting ready to start June and I'm in Virginia!

My questions:

1) Should I consider using more than the initial dose of bacteria to get my bio-filter started? Can there be too much of an aerobic bacteria dumped into a "brand new" pond?

2) I know that I'll have to cut back, but can anyone recommend a food that I can use the first few weeks to limit Ammonia nitrogen build-up?

BIZZITY BUMP cuz I haven't gotten an answer, and yet 70 people had looked at the thread. Did no one know these? Are they simply n00b repost questions and annoying to answer repeatedly?

I'm just looking for some help with feeding and beneficial bacteria after a 100% water change...if someone can contribute anything - even if it's a note at the bottom of a completely irrelevant story, why the hesitation to post?

follow the instruction on the bottle of bio filter start will b good, but i m sure slightly over dose wont do any harm

koi food mainly of wheatgerm base is easier to digest for kois. but i highly recommend not to feed for the initial 3 days then start feeding slowly say a few pellets. feed too much will surely create problem...

tyvm for your post, koi@kit.

It's supposed to be in the 80's all of next week (and only hotter from there til September) - so I think I've wimped out on the 100% water change this time of year. I still replaced the pump and filter, but I didn't have to change out my bio-filter Cool.

I have to ask, though - do you generally cut back that much on feeding or switch to wheatgerm anytime you clean your bio-filter? Do you generally try to align that with certain times of year?

hi chris..

usually i dont feed my koi a day b4 or a day after cleaning my bio chamber.. well dat was b4 i switch my filter system to totally on Bakki Shower and Bacteria hse... no more cleaning... well, at least for near 4 to 5 yr now..finger cross....

as for wheatgerm, i used to feed them <hikari> wheatgerms, again, dat was like 4 to 5 yrs ago too.. now i use mainly <momotaro mix> food which is more balance food..

also in my area, temperature is 28'c to 34'c year around.. my pond water is 26'c without chiller..
