p.H. range and TDS Can't Post

Hello everyone

I am a newbie to this group and I am hoping for some info.

I understand that as a koi blood has a p.H. of 7.4 and the preferred range of water p.H is between 7.2 and 7.8 however I have raised my K.H to 100mg/ltr which has stablised the p.H to outside this range to 8.3

I also understand that raising the level of K.H by the addition of bicarbonate of soda this has also raised the level of TDS (total desolved solids)and that a very low TDS is the clue to good growth rates and ideal for health and colouration.

How can you test the water for TDS and what is the prefereed level .Any views on the above would be much appreciated.I must stress that the tap water in our area is very soft without any minerals or k.H. so it is therefore necessary to raise the levels of k.H and G.H by the addition of Merlyn and bicarbonate of soda.(merlyn calcified seaweed)

regards dave

Mmmp... KH 100ppm is kind of impossible. Would you like to retest it again. Also, I read quite abit of books on the ideal pH which should be 8.5

Regards.
